United States: The Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee told the administration the day before yesterday that he received some indications of a big national security threat and asked them to declassify the information for the freedom of open discussion of the US and its allies on the issue of how to let it go.

Lack of Specifics Raises Concerns

The House Intelligence Committee Republican Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio did not specify what the potential danger in his announcement. The press office at the White House did not mention more or release any official statements, leaving many concerned people hanging, as reported by the Associated Press.

The Turner Representatives in the Congress sent an email on Wednesday saying that an urgent matter to top Congressional foreign matters policymakers, a specific foreign military power, has been identified by them. He advised them to the confines of the SCL, a secured area where they would be able to review the intelligence information. He did not even get into the details; he was not even thorough.

Clash with Biden’s Administration

Turner’s and Biden’s announcements came out to surprise each other.

President Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan mentioned replacing these briefings with an earlier, more robust briefing for the Gang of Eight, which included Turner and others, due to be held on Thursday. Sullivan did not impart what the answer was about or what order those details were in Turner’s statement.

“I’m focused on going to see him, sit with him as well as the other House members of the Gang of Eight, tomorrow,” Sullivan said. “And I’m not in a position to say anything further from this podium at this time.”

National Security Advisor’s Uncommon Approach

“Let me just say that I got in touch with the Gang of Eight personally. In actuality, it is extremely uncommon for the national security adviser to operate in that manner,” Sullivan stated. He claimed to have been in touch earlier this week, as reported by Associated Press.

He would not say whether the briefing was related to Turner’s warning. “I leave it to you to draw whatever connections you want,” he told reporters.
